Sunshine Coast FC Academy would like to congratulate the scholarship winners for 2013.
Jonah Townsend
Seven-year-old Jonah Townsend was the winner of this year’s under eight years Academy scholarship. Jonah said he was excited and proud to win the scholarship. Jonah has been playing football since he was about one year old, ever since he could walk. His favourite team is the Brisbane Roar, but if Jonah could have a training session with any player in the world he would choose to train with his Dad. For Jonah, the best parts of playing football are playing with friends and kicking goals. Aside from football, Jonah likes running and playing tennis, but when he grows up he wants to be a professional footballer. This year, Jonah looks forward to improving all elements of his game.
Kye Stopka
Ten-year-old Kye Stopka was the winner of the 2013 under 11 years Academy scholarship. Kye has been playing football for seven years and his favourite position is centre midfield. His favourite team is Manchester United and if he could have a training session with any player it would be Wayne Rooney. Kye’s favourite thing about playing football is games on Saturday with his team mates. Outside of football, Kye likes watching movies and playing video games. Kye was very happy and excited to find he had won the scholarship. His ambition is to play football in Europe and for Australia. This year Kye is looking to improve his game and play smarter.
Jai Curran-Nicholls
Eight-year-old Jai Curran-Nicholls received the under nine years Academy scholarship. Jai has been playing football for three years and enjoys playing centre midfield. His favourite team is Barcelona and if he could train with any player he would choose Lionel Messi. Jai’s ambition is to play football professionally in the National Premier Leagues, but for this year he is concentrating on improving his passing and learning more tricks. Outside of football Jai likes maths and playing handball. His favourite thing about football is taking on players and scoring goals.
Sommer Jordan
Ten-year-old Sommer Jordan was the winner of the Under 11 year girls’ scholarship this year. Sommer said she was very happy to have won the scholarship. Sommer’s favourite position to play is mid-field and she has been playing for three years. Her favourite team is the Brisbane Roar and if Sommer could have a training session with any player she would choose Lionel Messi. Sommer likes playing football because it’s fun, and outside of football she enjoys rugby union.
Sione David
Five-year-old Sione David received the Academy scholarship for under seven years. Sione has been a keen footballer from a young age, preferring to sleep with a bed full of soccer balls than teddy bears, and preferring a game of football to cartoons. Sione has been kicking soccer balls since he could walk and has been playing for a year. His favourite team is Manchester United and if he could train with any player he would choose Mario Balotelli. Sione would love to play in the A League and travel the world as a professional football star. Outside of football Sione enjoys anything sporty or competitive, and playing cards and memory games. The thing Sione most enjoys about football is being part of a team and kicking balls around. He also likes football because he enjoys competing in team sports. This year, Sione wants to learn new skills so he can better his game and he wants to be the best at football.
Christopher Rule
Christopher Rule was the winner of the under 10 years Academy scholarship.
Christopher has been playing football for five years, and enjoys playing midfield.
His favourite team is FC Barcelona and if Christopher could train with any player in the world he would choose Lionel Messi.
Hi football ambition is to be a really good player, and be able to play in Europe and be selected for the Socceroos. Outside of football, Christopher likes playing on his family’s ipad.
The thing Christopher enjoys most about football is learning new skills and having fun with his friends. This year he would like to continue to develop the technique of striking the ball and learn tricks in a one on one situation.
